How much has your baby grown this month?

When it comes to their heights, babies at 14 months would gain about half an inch. Most toddlers this age fall a couple of kilograms under or over 10 kilograms.

As long as your baby is eating healthy and properly able to function in the tasks needed at this age, it should be fine. Your doctor will make sure to take all the measurements necessary at regular doctor check-up appointments.

Your baby’s gross motor skills

There might be some discomfort because your child will be getting their very first molars around this month. This might disrupt their sleep and make them a bit more irritated. But you can help them by giving them teething rings.

If you give your baby a couple of crayons and some paper, they might just make their very first art pieces for you. They will love to play with colors. Another motor skill development would be the ability to pick and move things around. They will try to grab onto objects around the house. So, you have to be careful about their safety.

How will your baby communicate?

Don’t be angered if your baby suddenly pulls on to your hair or bites you on a random day. It is normal for toddlers to show such kinds of behavior when they feel frustrated or angered. They might try to see how you react.

The best thing to do is to keep your calm and let them know that it is not okay to do such things. You should clearly say ‘No’ when your baby does something that is hurtful but makes sure that you aren’t showing anger or resentment back at them.

What is your baby eating?

Is your baby having at least three meals a day and about two snacks by this age? This is the normal expected healthy amount of meals from a toddler this age.

Along with the solid meals, your baby could drink up to about 400 ml of milk. Make sure to feed your baby a healthy and balanced diet at every meal.

If your child is a picky eater, try to give them options to choose from and be patient with understanding what they want.

Social and emotional skills at this age?

It is normal if you start experiencing separation anxiety again during this time of your child’s development. They are coming to terms with you not being around at times and it will take them some time to cope with that.

Best activities and toys for this age?

  • Toddlers love to play Peek-a-boo
  • Soft toys
  • Puzzles
  • Colorful balls
  • Chores
  • Go on walks
  • Read books with them
  • Color books

How much will your baby sleep?

The duration of time that they sleep will still remain the same at 14 hours a day for 14 months. They will take naps during the day. However, you might notice that they sleep more peacefully and soundly during the time that they sleep.
