How much has your child grown this month?

An average 25-month-old baby will round up to weigh about 12 kilograms. They will also have grown to a decent height of about 34 inches. Throughout their third year, they will gain about 2 more kilograms and add about 3 inches to their height.

It is normal for children this age to have their own growth rate and be taller or smaller compared to friends the same age. Your pediatrician will let you know if your child is growing according to the expected rate and if there is any reason to be concerned.

Your child’s gross motor skills

If you have a childproofed home, you have the least of the worries of your 25-month-old running, jumping, or climbing around. But they will still not give you time to rest even if you have.

You might be able to take them to the park and play catch or soccer with them by now. Make sure to use a soft, child-friendly ball.

How will your baby communicate?

Your baby will love to talk to you during this age. They are trying to add more words to their vocabulary. They will love to learn about animals and animal sounds like ‘meow’ or ‘moo’. You can make the sound and make them guess what animal you are pretending to be. They will also try to mimic you and make that sound. The easiest way to teach them new words is just by talking to them as much as you can.

What should you feed your child?

Most mothers will already stop to breastfeed by the time their toddler turns two. Without breastmilk, your baby needs all the nutrition from the solid food or the whole milk that they are consuming. So, make sure that they are eating enough and not dropping all of it on the floor.

Social and emotional milestones

You might have taken hundreds of pictures of your baby but till now they wouldn’t have an idea about what they were. Slowly, they will start to recognize and realize that photographs are pictures of actual people. Once you show pictures of people that your baby knows, they might automatically point at their face and call out their beloved names.

Best games and toys for this age

Here is how you can engage your child while you also help them develop:

  • Play catch
  • Ask them to finish stories or listen to their stories
  • Pretend play
  • Puzzles will be highly engaging and interesting to them as they are trying to understand how things work

How much will your child sleep?

Develop a bedtime routine that helps to soothe your baby and you. Your baby will need sleep to get rest from a tiring day. They might start to show some resistance and might have some issues sleeping through the night. Some babies might even have nightmares and bad dreams. But it is your responsibility to make them feel safe when they do. Remember that they will move past it and it will go back to normal with patience.
