How much has your baby grown this month?

Happy second birthday to your baby!

Your tiny toddler has grown to become more confident and stronger this year. They can ask for what they need on their own and are learning to take charge of their life by doing things as independently as they can.

A 2-year-old’s average weight is about 12.5 kilogram and their average height is about 34.2 inches. When you visit the pediatrician, they will check all the physical growth measurements and make sure that your child is healthy and growing.

Your baby’s gross motor skills

When they are eating alongside you at the dinner table, they will be much more capable of using their spoons and forks by now. Compared to a year ago, they will also be able to drink from their sippy cups all on their own and they might not drop all the water on their clothes while doing that.

You might even see that your child has started to get on the chair all by themselves. Even though it is scary to let them, they will slowly learn to do it without tumbling. Make sure that your chairs are safer and don’t move easily.

Your child is slowly learning to use their fingers and perform fine motor skills as well. Give them some crayons and markers to scribble and make whatever they want to. Don’t expect them to start writing letters already but they will learn how to hold a marker and color with it.

How will your baby communicate?

Even with broken sentences, your 2-year-old will hold conversations with you. There will be words and phrases all over the place but they are constantly learning and you will be surprised at how much they have learned from hearing. Reading to them is still the best way to help them develop language.

Your child will ask you a lot of questions as they are interested in everything that is going on around them. You can also make them feel like they are capable by asking them questions. This will make them feel important.

What is your baby eating?

Along with their regular diet, your child might be recommended some vitamin and calcium supplements. Your child is growing constantly and if the doctor feels that their diet cannot suffice their nutritional needs.

Social and emotional skills at this age?

Watching you wash the dishes or wipe the countertops would be enough for your toddler to learn the action. They want to be able to do the things that you are able to do. So, they will watch you and copy whatever you are doing. If they see you cleaning or wiping, they might want to join you. You can also give them simple tasks to work alongside you.

Slowly but surely your child starts to get more comfortable with the caregivers. They are starting school pretty soon so it is important that they are fairly comfortable with being in a new environment by that time. Your toddler might slowly start to talk and show emotions around people that they are slightly familiar with.

Best activities and toys for this age?

  • Go for walks and talk about what you see around the environment
  • Sorting blocks with shapes and colors
  • Playing hide and seek
  • Finishing sentences in rhymes or videos that they are used to
  • Physical games in the park
  • Reading
  • Coloring or scribbling
  • Putting away things after playing
  • Chores around the house

How much will your baby sleep?

If your child is distracted during bedtime, try to limit screens to 1 hour before going to sleep. Also, make sure they get enough exercise during the day so that they don’t have excessive energy during the night.
