How much has your baby grown this month?

It might have been a completely busy last few months as your baby has not been giving you a break! Running around all the time and throwing tantrums every other chance that they get! It probably has taught you a lot of patience as well.

In the second year, children gain about 200 grams every month. If your child hasn’t gotten sick and has been maintaining their daily diet, it should be the rate of growth. Keep in mind that babies don’t follow the standard chart of growth and they take their own pace.

Your baby’s gross motor skills

Did you just witness your toddler picking up the toy that they dropped while they were standing on their own? Over the past few months, they have gained incredible balance and coordination which has made it possible for them to do such things without falling or tumbling over. Don’t worry even if your toddler does take a fall or leap trying to do something like that, it is totally fine for this age.

Baby teeth continue to grow until the completion of a child’s third year. So, your child could be adding a few more molars and canine teeth. These can make them irritable at times. You need to be aware of when they bite on things.

How will your baby communicate?

Your baby will use short two or maybe sometimes 3 worded sentences to express what they want to say. They will not be clear but what can be assured is that they will be very cute.

Their vocabulary is constantly expanding. So, sometimes they might shock or surprise you with random words that you might not know that they have heard of. They will catch onto sounds that they find interesting. They will prefer rhymes and songs.

What is your baby eating?

Did your baby just throw out broccoli on the table because they don’t like it? It is really disheartening and also sometimes might trigger your anger but understand that pressuring them will not work. You need to be patient and give them a sense of independence. You could give them the option to choose from two things and two of those things could be healthy.

Social and emotional skills at this age?

With a little bit of hesitation, your child might welcome someone else to join their playroom. They are still learning and adapting to the idea of having to share with others but slowly they are understanding the benefits and enjoying the time they spend with their friends. You should have a positive impact on your child by encouraging and explaining to them the importance of sharing.

You should also continue to instill empathetic habits in your baby so that they can understand how to treat other people.

Best activities and toys for this age?

  • Play soccer or catch
  • Give them blocks
  • Give them colors and crayons to draw
  • Dolls or puppets are also a good play friend
  • Take them to a park
  • Read with them

How much will your baby sleep?

Your baby will continue to sleep for 14 hours a day. Some weeks or days their sleep schedule might be disrupted because of illness or they might just be throwing tantrums. Having a standard sleep routine might help your baby get to the right sleepy mood before bedtime.
